The chief judge—may God exalt his standing—
The chief justice, may God strengthen his side,
is most worthy of my seeking him, my hopes, and my poems.
Is foremost in my intentions, hopes, and poetry.

Indeed I and my dawn, with Shams al-Din foremost among them,
Myself, my dawn, and the sun of faith preceded,
race on the course to offer prayers for him.
Racing to pray for him in earnest.

Whenever we mention him, all the perfume wafts forth,
When we mention him, fragrance overflows,
so each of us, speaking of him, is a perfumer, son of a perfumer—ʿAttar ibn ʿAttar.
For through him we are all perfumers, son of perfumers.
