The bright sword-edges charged when he gazed,
The white antelopes crept when we called them,
and my vital spot swiftly met them.
So I quickly went to meet them,

ʿĀmirī in glance, Ṭāʾī in mouth,
Full of life, radiant face,
outstanding in his beauty, like an idol.
Handsome like an idol.

I said, while my heart belonged to him:
I said, my heart longing for him,
My heart is yours, a slave to love, and I,
For you my heart is a loving slave, and I am

آه ما أكثرَ فيكَ المللا
for your sake, O hazel-eyed one, am the hazel-eyed one's slave.
For you O most beautiful, a slave of the most beautiful one.
Ah, how often you grow weary!
Alas how abundant is boredom in you,

ودعا الحادي وشدَّ الجملا
No sooner had your figure drawn near than it departed,
No sooner did your person approach than it departed,
and summoned the camel-driver and saddled the camel.
The guide called farewell and loaded the camel.

وغدا يوميَ يومَ الجملِ
So parting took counsel with the tumults within me,
So the separation consulted strife in me,
and my day became the Day of the Camel.
And my day became the day of departure.

Do you think my life of ease will return,
Will my soft living return,
while my sojourn with strong wine endures,
And my stay firmly established?

and the rain is generous, smiling with lightning,
The life in the lighting is bestowed with a name,
like ʿImād al-Dīn, gatherer of praise,
Like the pillar of faith, the whole of intimacy.

the best of the community, son of al-Afḍal?
The best of nations, son of the best
A king who encompassed humankind with favors,
A king who bestowed favors on all people

Pure of secrets, brave of publicities

so among us he is the first rain and the rain that follows.
So he is the distinguishing mark among us and the guardian

Bounty is where guidance is, where praise is;
The dew where guidance, where intimacy.
