سألتني مثيلة القمرين

كيفَ حالي فقلت يا مثل عيني

كيفَ حالي فقلت يا مثل عيني

She, the likeness of the two moons, asked me

The one with two moons asked me,

how I fared; I said, “O likeness of my eye,

"How are you?" I said, "O, apple of my eye,

زمن الليل والنهار تلاه

زمن الليل والنهار تلاه

زمنٌ في اللسان والركبتين

زمنٌ في اللسان والركبتين

the time of night and day was followed

The time of night and day that passed by

by infirmity in my tongue and both knees.

Is time on my knees and tongue.

غير أنَّ الدُّعاء والمدح للسلط

غير أنَّ الدُّعاء والمدح للسلط

ان مني على كلا الحالتين

ان مني على كلا الحالتين

Yet prayers and praise for the sultan

Except my prayers and praises of authority

come from me in both conditions.

Are from me in both states.

ذاكَ مرمى وذاكَ رفعاً إلى الل

ذاكَ مرمى وذاكَ رفعاً إلى الل

ه وللملك نصب عين اليدين

ه وللملك نصب عين اليدين

That is an aim, and that is raised to God,

That is an aim, and this - raising to God,

and, for the king, before the eye of both hands;

And for the king - erecting hands' eyes.

ولأقلام صاحب السرّ والأنظ

ولأقلام صاحب السرّ والأنظ

ار والاحتجاب في الخافقين

ار والاحتجاب في الخافقين

and for the pens of the keeper of secrets and oversight,

And for the pens of the one with secrets, visions,

and seclusion in the East and West.

And seclusion between the two horizons.

من يكن ذا صناعة عرفت أو

من يكن ذا صناعة عرفت أو

زمن خيفٍ لم يضع بين ذين

زمن خيفٍ لم يضع بين ذين

Whoever has a recognized craft, or faces

Whoever has a skill knew or a fearful time

a time of fear, will not be lost between these two.

دامَ رأي العلى متى برّ رأياً

دامَ رأي العلى متى برّ رأياً

يؤتِهِ الله أجره مرتين

يؤتِهِ الله أجره مرتين

May lofty counsel endure! Whenever he judges rightly,

As long as the opinion of the Exalted, when an opinion is righteous,

God will give him his reward twice.”
