Damascus and its inhabitants were gladdened by the

Delighted is Damascus and its loyal residents

rain and the faithful newcomer.

Whether rain or the faithful visitor comes

إن جاءَ وسميّها سريعاً

فالآن قد جاءَها الوليّ

فالآن قد جاءَها الوليّ

If its first autumn rain came swiftly,

If he comes quickly name him

so now the following rain has indeed come to it.
