  1. يا من يقول البدر أو شمس الضحى

    كمعذبي لأكيد القمرين

    O you who say the full moon or the morning sun

    is like my tormentor—to spite the two luminaries—

  2. أبوجه ذاك ووجه تلكَ تُقيسه

    قسماً لقد أخطأت من وجهين

    do you measure him against the face of that one and the face of this one?

    I swear, you have erred in two ways.
