O paradise of beauty that has displayed its charms,

When shall I win the hoped-for union?

And O law of beauty, my heart is bound

To you—when will your forbidden nearness be lawful?

Indeed, by your charms, the gazelles have grown jealous,

So their refuge is now the wilderness and trackless wastes.

Though your charms have reached perfection, I am indeed

In need of a tender turn from your two shoulders.
