O heart, you and my eye

are at war, as I see.

    That eye denies you repose,

    and you deny it sleep.

And I am the one who endured, between

    you two, the greatest torment.

    فلقد كفى ما قد جرى

    Both of you, stop the tears and sorrow;

for what has happened is surely enough.

May the Merciful not call to account the one

who ruled the heart and grew tyrannical.

I faced the radiance of his cheek,

and so dyed my tears red.

O you with drowsy eyelids, indeed

love has decreed that I stay awake.

How much more at ease a lover would be,

if union with you could be bought!
