أخا العلمِ إنَّ الشمس بادٍ ضياؤها

أخا العلمِ إنَّ الشمس بادٍ ضياؤها

فسرْ بسناءٍ حيثما أنت سائِر

فسرْ بسناءٍ حيثما أنت سائِر

O brother of learning, the sun’s light is plain;

O brother of knowledge, the sun is fading, its light dimming,

So travel in radiance wherever you go.

So journey with glory wherever you wander,

وخلّ فتى شيرازَ عنكَ فإنما

وخلّ فتى شيرازَ عنكَ فإنما

هو القطب قد دارت عليه الدوائر

هو القطب قد دارت عليه الدوائر

And leave the youth of Shiraz aside, for

And leave the youth of Shiraz be, for he is

He is but the pole; the circles of misfortune have turned against him.

The axis around which the spheres revolve.
