No wonder if I brought the noble-born man a panegyric,

It is no wonder if I come to the beloved with praise

Without any love verse or amatory prelude.

Without any spinning or beloved

هزَّت رؤوس السامعين بوصفه

طرباً فلم تحتج إلى تشبيب

It set the listeners’ heads swaying by describing him

It shook the heads of the listeners with its description

In delight, so it needed no amorous introduction.

Delightfully, so it had no need for prettification
