منwhoever رأىhas seen قاضيthe judge of القضاةthe judges عليّاʿAlī
من رأى قاضي القضاة عليّا
No fall of a lucky star is feared
He who has seen Ali, the judge of all judges,
by one who has seen ʿAlī, the chief of judges.
Need not fear the fall of any propitious star,
سارَjourneyed قاضيthe judge of القضاةthe judges للشامِto al-Shām غيثاًas life-giving rain
سارَ قاضي القضاة للشامِ غيثاً

فله الله سارياً وسريَّا
The chief of judges journeyed to al-Shām as life-giving rain;
The judge of all judges went as a bountiful rain to Syria,
may God be with him, a traveler by night and a noble man.
So may Allah make him forever flow generously!

يا وجدنا في الدين منه وليَّا
If we have found his bounty’s early rain in this world,
If we find wisdom useful in worldly affairs,
in matters of faith, we have found a saint in him.
How much more we find him a guardian friend in religion!

وزكاةً منهُ وكانَ تقيَّا
His kindness said, “Enjoy bounty
He said: Be happy with his blessings,
and alms from him”; and he was devout.
And with the purity that he exemplified.
