وكيف يحلّ الماء أكثره دم
My soul be ransom for a haughty one who deems my tears lawful!
My spirit wanders lost, dissolving my tears,
And how can water be lawful when most of it is blood?
And how can water dissolve more than blood?

من التيه في أغمادها تتبسم
My tearful eye wept, while the swords of his eyelid
My teary eyelids wept, and the blades of their lids
Smiled in their sheaths out of pride.
Smile from wandering lost in their sheaths.
