إلى القلبِ عنه سلوة تتخلَّل

My soul be ransom for a beloved; despite his turning away, I have found

With my soul I found no friend whose company,

no forgetfulness of him stealing into my heart.

Could gladden my heart and its sorrows dispel.

ويعلم بأسي من جميل وفائه

ويعلم بأسي من جميل وفائه

فما ضرَّه بالقول لو يتجمَّل

فما ضرَّه بالقول لو يتجمَّل

And he knows my anguish through his gracious faithfulness;

He knows my woes through his kindness and care,

so what harm would it do him to speak graciously?

No harm if with fine words he would excel.
