وسمعي منك في ذكر أريج
My reprover is in turmoil over you,
Forgive me for my confused state,
And my ears are filled with fragrant mention of you.
And hear me in my sweet aromas.

ملامته هوى قلبي اللَّجوج
Mention of you sweetened his speech; and what inflamed
With your mention, his speech is fragrant,
My stubborn heart’s passion was his reproach,
And your blame allured my stubborn heart.

Just as reproach spurred the bounty of the two hands
As blame allures the palm of my hand,
Of Walī al-Dīn, whose praises bring delight.
And the religion's guardian of glorious praise.

مضوا يعدو بغيظٍ في ضجيج
A generous man—were generous men to vie with him in glory,
A generous one, if the generous competed,
They would go off running in rage, amid an uproar.
They would run angrily in turmoil.

If the Euphrates makes the Nile overflow,
We would enjoy the sight of that canal.
We would enjoy that bay.

A man of Malīj, he has a door to bounty;
A Navy man who has in generosity a door,
Its throng almost bars my entry.
Whose crowds almost prevent access.

He appeared as bounty itself; should I be barred for some excuse,
He appeared generous, so if he veils for an excuse,
On his account, I would bring Ṭūkh against Malīj.
I came with pride in it over confused.
