سابقات لسبق قلبي الكسير
My lord, whose charitable gifts
race to outstrip my broken heart,
أعفspare me باللهby God عنfrom تواقيعwritten orders قومpeople
أعف بالله عن تواقيع قوم
أجحفواthey dealt harshly عندهاin connection with them بحاليwith my plight السعيرblazing
أجحفوا عندها بحالي السعير
Spare me, by God, the written orders of men
who have thereby aggravated my burning distress.
يطلبونthey demand الثناpraise طويلاًat length وأخشىand I fear
يطلبون الثنا طويلاً وأخشى
منof معاداتهمtheir hostility علىfor التقصيرfalling short
من معاداتهم على التقصير
They demand praise at length, and I fear
their hostility should I fall short.
وأقضيand I spend الدجىthe night's darkness سهاداًsleepless ويمضيand goes on
وأقضي الدجى سهاداً ويمضي
فيin حديثtalk الغنىwealth حديثtalk الفقيرthe poor man
في حديث الغنى حديث الفقير
And I spend the dark night sleepless, while on goes
the poor man's talk of wealth.
