مولايَ كم من شذرةٍ نظَّمت في

معنىً وليس لها إليك وصول

معنىً وليس لها إليك وصول

My lord, how many a gem of verse have I composed on

My Master, how many pieces of poetry I composed

a theme, yet it has no way of reaching you!

With meaning, yet they cannot reach you

قسماً ببيتك في المعالي إنني

قسماً ببيتك في المعالي إنني

أولى ببيتِ سوايَ حيث يقول

أولى ببيتِ سوايَ حيث يقول

I swear by your house in the heights of glory that I

I swear by your exalted house, I

have a greater claim to another's verse, when he says:

Prefer a humble dwelling where it is said

يا بدر حسَّادِي عليك كثيرة

يا بدر حسَّادِي عليك كثيرة

والمسعدون على هواك قليل

والمسعدون على هواك قليل

O full moon, many are those who envy me for you,

O full moon, my enviers of you are many

and few are those who aid me in my love for you.

And those made happy by your love are few
