May your phantom return to one ailing in body,

Gracious in meeting, with noble deeds its wont.

    Indeed, the phantom once made pilgrimage within me, bringing union;

Will it return, then, to the pilgrimage of union?

Behold, in love, O gazelle of the dune, I am—

As Ibn al-Qays is in eminence—one without peer.

Noble are his much-praised person and his name,

And he who raises the house of praise and bounty is a lord.

Rejoice in it: an accepted pilgrimage and a prayer,

Upon which are signs attesting to the lights of acceptance.

You say to those rites, 'Welcome

To you!' O sons of Makhzum, when you behold them.

People have indeed been honored and perished; but

Yours alone is an honor enduring among all other people.
