سقى الله جسماً منكِ أودى به الضنى

سقى الله جسماً منكِ أودى به الضنى

فأودى بعينيّ البكى والتسهد

May God water that body of yours, which wasting sickness carried off.

So weeping and sleeplessness have laid waste to my eyes.

وقد كان مسلولاً يهيّج حسرتي

وقد كان مسلولاً يهيّج حسرتي

فكيف به تحت الثرى وهو مغمد

فكيف به تحت الثرى وهو مغمد

And it had been unsheathed, stirring my grief.

What, then, of it beneath the earth, now sheathed?
