ربّ أديب رأى كتاباً

ربّ أديب رأى كتاباً

فقال ماذا المليح عندك

فقال ماذا المليح عندك

Many a man of letters saw a book,

O Lord of literature, saw a book

And said, "What is this fine thing you have?"

And said "What is beautiful with you?"

فقلت في الحال يا كتابي

فقلت في الحال يا كتابي

غيب وإلا سلخت جلدك

غيب وإلا سلخت جلدك

So I said at once, "O my book,

I said immediately "O my book

Vanish, or else I'll strip off your hide!"

Disappear or I'll skin your hide!"
