I swore to her by the coursers—my tears—

and by the kindlers of fire, which are my ribs:

if the one who has reproached me cannot see

her beauties, then I am surely deaf to him.

Veiled, she smiles, revealing her mouth, just as

my exquisite verse is strung in praise of the purest of mankind:

Farid, peerless in eminence, learning, forbearance, and piety—

O wondrous Farid, who possesses them all!

My poetry spreads its fragrance among mankind through praising him,

and his generosity to me is not wasted among mankind.

I fashion Basit ('expansive') and Kamil ('complete') verses of praise,

for his Wafir ('abundant') and Sari‘ ('swift') bounty.

There is no fault in his kindness, except that I

have grown greedy; today I cannot be called contented.

In the month of Rabi‘, I have come offering congratulations,

and, thanks to him, all my days are a month of spring.

So may my praise of his bounty always be served by

my sound judgment, my advancing success, and my intercessor.
