ويحذرand is wary منof موبقاتruinous blows الصروفfortune's vicissitudes
ويحذر من موبقات الصروف
I say to whoever complains of calamities
and fears the ruinous blows of fortune:
عليكَyou should turn بأبوابِto the gates of سيفSayf (Sword) العلاal-ʿUlā (Glory)
عليكَ بأبوابِ سيف العلا
ملاذrefuge of الفقيرthe poor وأمنand safety for المخُوفthe threatened
ملاذ الفقير وأمن المخُوف
Turn to the gates of Sayf al-ʿUlā,
refuge of the poor and safety for the threatened.
تجدyou will find ظلّهhis shade جنَّةًa paradise والجِنانand the gardens of Paradise
تجد ظلّه جنَّةً والجِنان
بلاwithout شكّdoubt تحتbeneath ظلالshadows of السيوفswords
بلا شكّ تحت ظلال السيوف
You will find his shade a paradise; and the gardens of Paradise
lie, without doubt, beneath the shadows of swords.
