أقولُ لقلبيَ العاني تصبَّرْ

أقولُ لقلبيَ العاني تصبَّرْ

وإن بَعُدَ المساعدُ والحبيب

وإن بَعُدَ المساعدُ والحبيب

I say to my captive heart: be patient,

I say to my troubled heart, have patience,

Even if the helper and the beloved are far away.

Though helpers fail me and friends flee,

عسى الهمّ الذي أمسيتُ فيه

عسى الهمّ الذي أمسيتُ فيه

يكون وراءه فرجٌ قريب

يكون وراءه فرجٌ قريب

Perhaps the sorrow in which I find myself this evening

Perhaps after this grief that I dwell in

Will be followed by relief close at hand.

Relief and ease may soon come to me.
