أقول وقد جاء الغلام بصحنِهِ

عقيب طعام الفطر يا غاية المنى

عقيب طعام الفطر يا غاية المنى

I say, as the servant boy arrives with his platter,

I say as the boy comes with his tray

after the fast-breaking meal: “O fulfillment of my wishes,

After breakfast on Eid, O height of wishes

بعيشك قل لي جاءَ صحن قطايفٍ

بعيشك قل لي جاءَ صحن قطايفٍ

وبحْ باسمِ من تهوى ودعني من الكُنى

وبحْ باسمِ من تهوى ودعني من الكُنى

by your life, tell me, ‘A platter of qatayif has arrived,’

With your life tell me has come a tray of pastries

and reveal the name of the one you love; spare me the bynames.”
