أشعتI made known حبِّيَmy love فيamong القاصيthose far away وفيand among الدَّانيthose near
أشعت حبِّيَ في القاصي وفي الدَّاني
وفيand concerning عذوليَmy reprover قدindeed أطلقتI applied the name فدَّانيmy pair of plough-oxen
وفي عذوليَ قد أطلقت فدَّاني
I made my love known among those far away and those near.
My love shone in the far and near
And I dubbed my reprover 'my pair of plough-oxen.'
And in my tenderness I let loose my vines

فصحّ لي إنما في العقل ثوران
He charged at me with reproach that did not suit me.
He rose against me with unwarranted blame
So I knew: his mind held nothing but two bulls.
So it was clear that his mind was in turmoil

كأنني من عليّ يوم إحسان
My longing for my beloved's beauty grows if you reproach me,
If he finds fault with me, my love for him grows
As though I were a day of bounty from Ali.
As if I were indebted to him for a day of grace

A judge with inheritance and achievement as witnesses
A judge for an inherited fortune and gains
To his excellence—how fine a judge and two upright witnesses!
How excellent a judge of grace and justice!

O you who come with abundant generosity that precedes you
Merit; their month, too, is two Rabīʿs—two springs.
Grace and renown, like two springs

As for today's clothing, if I did not greet his arrival,
If today I do not meet your arrival
How often, in his bounty, he has met me with its like!
How many the likes of it have met me in generosity

If someone tells you that I have been filled
My eye, then may my eye never be filled with my own pupil.
With another - my eyes have been filled with no other man
