بآلis the house of نباتةNubāta الغرّthe illustrious السرَاةthe highborn
بآل نباتة الغرّ السرَاة
I inherited eloquence from my forebears—and how noble
is the illustrious, highborn house of Nubāta!
فلاso no عجبwonder للفظيat my words حينwhen يحلوthey are sweet
فلا عجب للفظي حين يحلو
فهذاfor this القطرsyrup منfrom ذاكthat النباتplant
فهذا القطر من ذاك النبات
No wonder, then, that my words are sweet:
for this syrup comes from that plant.
