علقتها غيداءَ حاليةَ الطَّلا
تجنيshe does harm علىto عقلِthe reason of المحبِّthe lover ولبّهand his intellect
تجني على عقلِ المحبِّ ولبّه
I fell in love with her, a graceful beauty with an adorned neck;
She wreaks havoc on the lover’s reason and his intellect.
بخلتshe was stingy بلُؤلُؤٍwith the pearls of ثغرهاher mouth عنfrom لاثمٍa kisser
بخلت بلُؤلُؤٍ ثغرها عن لاثمٍ
فتطوَّقتso she adorned her neck بمثالwith the likeness of ماwhat بخلتshe was stingy بهwith it
فتطوَّقت بمثال ما بخلت به
She withheld the pearls of her mouth from a kisser,
So she wore around her neck the likeness of what she withheld.
