لباب الحمى العزيّ وجهت مقصدي

وأصبحت ذا جاهٍ لديه وذا كنز

وأصبحت ذا جاهٍ لديه وذا كنز

I directed my aim toward the gate of the ʿIzzī sanctuary.

The spring of ambition turned me to its course,

And I came to have standing with him and a treasure.

And I attained power, and wealth in store;

وكنت بذلّ آخذ الرّزق في الورى

وكنت بذلّ آخذ الرّزق في الورى

فأصبحت فيهم آخذ المال بالعزّ

فأصبحت فيهم آخذ المال بالعزّ

And I used to receive my sustenance among humankind in humiliation.

Of old I took sustenance with humble mien,

So now I receive wealth among them with honor.

Now seize it boldly, and by might secure.
