من شدَّة الفقر والهوان

I complain to God of what I endure

I complain to God of what I suffer

from the severity of poverty and humiliation.

أصبحت من ذلَّةٍ وعري

أصبحت من ذلَّةٍ وعري

ما فيَّ دافٍ سوى لساني

ما فيَّ دافٍ سوى لساني

So abased and naked have I become

I have become from humiliation and nakedness

that nothing about me is warm except my tongue.

Nothing in me is burning except my tongue
