سألت الحلال فأعطى وقد

سألت الحلال فأعطى وقد

سألناكَ يا من عليه يدَل

سألناكَ يا من عليه يدَل

I asked al-Halal, and he gave; and indeed,

I asked the righteous one, and he gave though

we have asked you, O you with whom one may take liberties.

We asked you, O you upon whom one depends

وأنتَ في الدولة ابن المعزّ

وأنتَ في الدولة ابن المعزّ

فلا تقصرن عن ابن الأجل

فلا تقصرن عن ابن الأجل

And in the state, you are Ibn al-Mu'izz;

And you among the state, son of Al-Mu'izz

so never fall short of Ibn al-Ajall.

So do not fall short, son of Ajall
