بي من بني الترك ساجي الطرف وسنان

بي من بني الترك ساجي الطرف وسنان

ما الصبّ منه معاذٌ وهو فتَّان

ما الصبّ منه معاذٌ وهو فتَّان

I am smitten with one of the Turks, tranquil of gaze and drowsy.

No ardent lover is safe from him: he is a tempter.

بي ضيق العين صانوه فقلت لهم

بي ضيق العين صانوه فقلت لهم

سمّ الخياط مع المحبوب ميدان

سمّ الخياط مع المحبوب ميدان

I am smitten with a narrow-eyed one they guarded, so I told them:

With the beloved, the needle's eye is an open field.

له من الحسن فنٌّ لا نضير له

له من الحسن فنٌّ لا نضير له

وللعلا في العلى فنٌّ وأفنان

وللعلا في العلى فنٌّ وأفنان

He has a kind of beauty without equal.

And al-ʿAla has, in loftiness, an art and branching boughs.

البحر علماً وجوداً جانسا صفة

البحر علماً وجوداً جانسا صفة

فحبذا منه سيحان وجيحان

فحبذا منه سيحان وجيحان

A sea in learning and generosity, the two alike in nature;

How splendid, then, are his Sayhan and Jayhan!

والوارث الفضل ممنوعٌ لسؤدده

والوارث الفضل ممنوعٌ لسؤدده

مع العلوّ على السادات رجحان

مع العلوّ على السادات رجحان

And the heir to excellence—his nobility cannot be outweighed,

Exalted above the lords in preeminence.

يا سيِّداً جمعت لي من عوارفهِ

يا سيِّداً جمعت لي من عوارفهِ

نعمى وعليا فأسرارٌ وإعلان

نعمى وعليا فأسرارٌ وإعلان

O master, through whose favors were gathered for me

Blessing and high distinction—in secret and in public.

غلام بيتك في بيتي ثناً ووَلاً

غلام بيتك في بيتي ثناً ووَلاً

كما يسرك حسان وسلمان

كما يسرك حسان وسلمان

In my verse I am your household's servant, in praise and loyalty,

As Hassan and Salman delight you.
