أسعَى لأندَى البرِيَّه

أسعَى لأندَى البرِيَّه

How many a man, on seeing me

Many a man said, when he saw me

make my way to the most generous of humankind,

hastening to the most generous of mankind,

عطية منه تبغي

عطية منه تبغي

فقلتُ ألف عطيَّه

فقلتُ ألف عطيَّه

has asked, “Is it a gift from him that you seek?”

“Are you seeking a gift from him?”

I replied, “A thousand gifts.”

So I replied, “A thousand gifts.”
