لوif آذتنيَharmed me عذَّاليmy reproachers بحربهمُwith their warfare
لو آذتنيَ عذَّالي بحربهمُ
إذnow that فيwith التكاريشthe potbellies أصبحتI have become هيماناbesotted
إذ في التكاريش أصبحت هيمانا
Had my reproachers declared war on me
If my reproachers harmed me with their warfare,
when amid the skirmishes I had grown love-mad,
now that I have become besotted with potbellies,
إذاًthen لقامwould surely rise بمصرِيin my Egypt معشرa band of people حشنrough
إذاً لقام بمصرِي معشر حشن
عندat the time of الحفيظةprotective indignation إنْif ذوone possessing لوثةٍstrength لاناgrew soft
عند الحفيظة إنْ ذو لوثةٍ لانا
then surely a handsome band would rise for an Egyptian
then a rough band would rise in my Egypt,
when honor was stirred—should some addled man go soft.
when honor is roused, even if a strong man grows soft:

My people—whenever a cock bares its two molars before them,
a people who, when the penis bares its two molars at them,
they fly to it, in throngs and one by one.
fly to it in groups and singly.
