God be praised for the church gazelle I gazed upon!

As though I gazed upon a gazelle in my covert.

He reveals his charms and recites his scriptures—

What a sun, and what a deacon!

How strange of him, in Jesus' faith, that he has

come to oppose his judgment by analogy!

That one raised people from death, while this one

in love has brought death to people.

For the sake of his enticing mouth, there open

forever in his palm the lips of the cup.

And it is as though his cross, with both arms outstretched,

seeks to embrace his gracefully swaying figure.
