باللهِ عجْ بالحمى البدريّ مدَّكراً

باللهِ عجْ بالحمى البدريّ مدَّكراً

بيتاً نظيماً وقل يا بيتَ مطلوبي

بيتاً نظيماً وقل يا بيتَ مطلوبي

For God’s sake, turn aside to the Badri sanctuary, recalling

By God, strange is the full moon's madness

a finely composed verse, and say: O home of the one I seek,

Making you compose poetry and say "O house of my beloved one"

أنتَ الحبيب ولكنِّي أعوذُ به

أنتَ الحبيب ولكنِّي أعوذُ به

من أن أكون محبًّا غير محبوب

من أن أكون محبًّا غير محبوب

You are the beloved, but I seek refuge in him

You are the beloved, but I seek refuge in Him

from being a lover who is not loved.

From being a lover without being loved

وحقُّ تربةِ يحيى يا محمدَهُ

وحقُّ تربةِ يحيى يا محمدَهُ

لا غير الصدقُ منِّي صبرَ أيوب

لا غير الصدقُ منِّي صبرَ أيوب

And by Yahya’s grave, O his Muhammad,

By the right of John the Baptist's soil, O Muhammad

may sincerity not alter the patience of Job within me.

Naught but truth and Job's patience come from me
