وشاهد أعجبني حسنه

وشاهد أعجبني حسنه

وكنت في آخرَ كالواحد

وكنت في آخرَ كالواحد

And one present delighted me with his beauty;

His beauty amazed me

And toward another I felt as toward the first.

And I was like one possessed

فحارَ في هذا وذا خاطري

فحارَ في هذا وذا خاطري

وقلت بالغائب والشاهد

وقلت بالغائب والشاهد

So my mind was bewildered between this one and that,

My thoughts were troubled

And I declared for both the absent and the present.

I spoke of the absent and the witness
