متى تشتفي بالعود مقلتي العبرى
She says, as the old camel’s back is saddled for night travel,
She says as the lute grieves for the companion
“When will my tearful eye be healed by your return?”
When will my weeping eyes be consoled by the lute

Until I see my palms filled with dust

She said, “Then ride the darkness to Badr, the full moon of glory.”
She said ride the night to the full moon
I said, “Yes,” and she was certain of a bright night journey.
I said yes and was convinced of attaining the joy

Our hope then circled his right hand,
Our hope revolved around my right hand
and swore that it must reach his left.
And swore it must reach the left hand
