ومليح إذا نظرت إليه

قلت أملك له الملاح رعايا

قلت أملك له الملاح رعايا

And a handsome one—when you look at him,

Handsome when you look at him

you say, “Is he a king, with the beautiful as his subjects?”

I said I have for him the fine shepherd

فيه للناظرين حسن وملح

فيه للناظرين حسن وملح

فهو يشوي به كبود البرايا

فهو يشوي به كبود البرايا

For those who gaze, he has beauty and charm (salt);

In him for the beholders is beauty and wit

so with it he roasts the livers of all creatures.

So he grills with it the livers of the deserts
