And a graceful maiden, whose gaze is traced to Kinana,

And whose swaying figure is traced to al-Nadr.

    She guarded her lips from one who would sip them, with her glances;

Just so, swords of India protect the frontier's domain.

As though my eyelids, when they pour out tears

For love of her, were al-Mu'ayyad's hand pouring gold dust.

May God preserve al-Mu'ayyad's days, for they are—

And may they ever remain among us—festive seasons for the ages.

A king whose knowledge and bounty are equal,

As though they were two seas that came upon another sea.

O king of high glory, glad tidings to you of the approaching feast,

And glad tidings to humankind of a tenth-share from the clouds of your two palms.

And may you be congratulated on the Feast of Fast-Breaking, which arose slaughtering

Your enemies, until Fast-Breaking became indistinguishable from the Feast of Sacrifice.
