فالجسم أصفره والدَّمع أحمره
A robe of love—its two-colored fabric has undone me;
A garment of love has destroyed me, its sword
Thus my body is its yellow, and my tears its red.
Has turned my body yellow, and my tears red

O you who change the lovesick lover's body through illness,
O He who can change the body of the loved one from illness
Be as you wish; this does not change him.
Be as you wish, for this does not change it

He has folded his love for you within a heart—that is his habit;
Fold your love in a heart, such is its habit
And my banner of praise is unfurled only by
And my expertise is only to spread praise of it

One whose bounty—may the house we dwell in never lack it,
Whoever's house is not devoid of his boons,
Nor may the verse we compose ever lack his praise.
And whose house is not devoid of his praises, we reside in it

O patron, who has never let delegations seek him in vain,
O companion whom the purpose of delegations was not lost to
The fragrance of precious perfumes wafts when we mention him.
And the spreading of favors was not lost when we mention him

أو الحسود بأنكاد تفطره
Rejoice at Eid: either we reveal what is hoped for,
Rejoice in the feast, either we initiate what is hoped for
Or you break the envious man's fast with sorrows.
Or the envious with animosity try to break it

And order a banquet spread from you to make us whole;
And he ordered the spreading of carpets from you that console us
And we, as is our custom, will make it whole by eating.
While we in our principles are compelled to eat it
