Through love, a gazelle has taken my senses in pledge.

How can I lend an ear to friends who forbid me to love him?

He, whose union is hard to attain, has left me in the torment of humiliation.

Every misfortune but his desertion is easy for me to bear.

I have a heart that has never yearned for anyone among humankind but you.

And ribs that have never arched over anything but love for you.

And though the trials of separation from you have fallen upon us one after another,

Patience—perhaps soon the sight of you will wipe them away.
