يا عاذلي يوم جدّ الحبُّ بالفرقا
فارقتmay you part from إلفكyour beloved وتشقىand you suffer مثلlike ماwhat أشقىI suffer
فارقت إلفك وتشقى مثل ما أشقى
O my reproacher, when love grew earnest with parting,
May you part from your beloved and suffer as I suffer.
تقولyou say اصبرbe patient وعاقبةand the outcome of الصبرpatience تلقىyou will find
تقول اصبر وعاقبة الصبر تلقى
مليحfine تامرyou command ولكنbut أينwhere منone who يبقىsurvives
مليح تامر ولكن أين من يبقى
You say, “Be patient, and you will see what patience brings.”
You give fine counsel—but where is one who will survive?
