You excelled and inspired awe—who, then, is this Habib?

Woe to him! Or who is Abu al-Tayyib?

And had those two raced you to a goal,

You would have won, and both would have been among the losers.

You excelled and gave generously—a garden

Wafting fragrance, and a copious downpour.

And your eminence suffices me as a spreading tree,

And your kindness as wholesome fruit.

And I have—would you be interested?—

A virgin for you, with a matron's ways.
