O pampered one, who walks gently, unsuspecting,

And sways the flanks of the leafy bough,

His forelock and the light of his brow have brought together

The darkness of night and the radiant morning.

Did you know that I bear a burning anguish

Before which the point of the blue spearhead recoils?

Long have I watched for the phantom, and between me and it lies

A vigil through the dark—when shall I sleep, so we may meet,

Between a breast adorned with a necklace of tears

Of joy, and a neck encircled by an embrace?
