أَطَلَّ وَقَد خُطَّ في خَدِّهِ

مِنَ الشَعرِ سَطرٌ دَقيقُ الحُروفِ

مِنَ الشَعرِ سَطرٌ دَقيقُ الحُروفِ

He appeared, with a line traced upon his cheek—

He appeared, and on his cheek had been inscribed

a line of down, its lettering exquisitely fine.

a line of hair with delicate letters.

فَقُلتُ أَرى الشَمسَ مَكسوفَةً

فَقُلتُ أَرى الشَمسَ مَكسوفَةً

فَقوموا نُصَلّي صَلاةَ الكُسوفِ

فَقوموا نُصَلّي صَلاةَ الكُسوفِ

So I said, “I see the sun eclipsed.”

So I said, “I see the sun eclipsed;

“Then rise, you two, that we may perform the eclipse prayer.”

so rise, let us offer the eclipse prayer.”
