    And a keen-edged sword, unsheathed like a tongue of fire,

    It brings relief through vengeance, or banishes disgrace.

    You imagine a flame of fire flying from it

    In a swirling cloud of dust raised by the horses.

    It speeds on, then plunges blazing behind the dust cloud,

    As a night-roaming star descends, speeding along.

    تَحمى وَيَغرَقُ ماءٌ فَوقَهُ جاري

    It assails, and a fire kindled within it burns;

    It grows hot, and water flowing over it drowns.
