And a flower bud whose veil the morning drew down
Like a veil the morning lowered its mask
from a face dewy with blossoms,
Over a pagedew-laden with flowers

in a pebbly valley, whose daisies' mouths suckled
In a meadow where its valleys suckled
the teats of every rain-pouring cloud.
The aftermath of every passing cloud

There, into the earth's lap, youth's hand scattered
The morning breeze scattered in it
pearls of dew and silver coins of blossoms.
Pearls of dew and coins of light
وَقَدِand already اِرتَدىhad donned غُصنَa bough النَقاthe sand dune وَتَقَلَّدَتand wore as necklaces
حَليَjewels الحَبابِthe bubbles سَوالِفُthe sides of the necks الأَنهارِthe rivers
And the valley had donned the dune's bough, while
The narcissus branch has worn its finery
the rivers' necks wore jewels of bubbles.
And the rivers braided necklaces of hail
فَحَلَلتُso I alighted حَيثُwhere الماءُthe water صَفحَةُthe face ضاحِكٍa laughing person

So I alighted where the water was a laughing face,
I lingered where the laughing waters form a pane
joyous, and where the bank was the first down along a cheek.
Of tumbling rapids and rushing tide
وَالريحُand the wind تَنفُضُshakes بُكرَةًat daybreak لِمَمَlocks of hair الرُبىthe hills

And the wind shook the hills' locks at daybreak,
The wind shakes the meadows’ forelocks
and the dew sprinkled the faces of the trees.
And the dew drips down the faces of the trees

مِنof رِدفِa haunch رابِيَةٍa hillock وَخَصرِand a waist قَرارِa hollow
Dividing my glances among beauties:
Dividing glances ‘twixt the charms
a hillock's haunch and a hollow's waist,
Of a riding she-camel’s hind and slender waist,
وَأَراكَةٍand an arak tree سَجَعَcooed الهَديلُthe male dove بِفَرعِهاupon its bough

and an arak tree where a dove cooed upon its bough,
A doe whose boughs the anklets’ chime
while dawn unveiled the brow of day.
As dawn lifts off the brow of day

It swayed its flanks for him, and often
She sways her limbs, and mayhap
shed upon him a mantle of blossoms.
Sheds on it the mantle of light
