How fitting that whoever opposes you should humble himself,
Worthy of being humble is he who opposed you
and that whoever you seek to meet should shrink back.
And of turning back is he whom you intended to meet

Armenos did not dispatch his messengers to you
until he feared it would be the final reckoning.
Until he feared the decisive separation

Like a camel herd scaring away actively, but when it sees
its rough passage harming it, takes the level way.
Its liveliness causing it harm, it calms down

His capitulation has taken the place of his conversion to Islam,
His surrender to Islam was negated by his submission
after submission, as a veil drawn down over him.
After humiliation, he cloaked himself in robes

The Romans' judgment did not fail when they hastened
The opinion of Rome did not matter when they hastened
to seek safe conduct, for fear of being overtaken.
To seek safety, fearing they would be rushed

They came down from their kingdom, one who does not see
no cause to withdraw from it in deeds like theirs.
In their actions, a descent befitting his stature

And they sought this reconciliation, so they extinguished
through their submission a fire blazing from them.
With their submission a blazing fire

A sea that leaves every river a stream
