Whatever I forget, I shall not forget al-Jazira, a playground

for delight, frequented by beautiful, bashful maidens.

The breeze courses through its tender growth and its pool,

so a spear is shaken or an Indian-steel sword unsheathed.

And tears of dew adorn every anemone,

like a cheek over which a black betrayer has crept.
