ما دعوك البديع حتى تفردتَ

ما دعوك البديع حتى تفردتَ

وأصبحت في الغناء بديعاً

وأصبحت في الغناء بديعاً

They did not call you al-Badiʿ until you became unrivaled,

You were not called 'Al-Badi' until you were unique,

and became a marvel in song.

And in singing you became 'Al-Badi'.

فإذا ما دعوت لهواً بألحانك

فإذا ما دعوت لهواً بألحانك

وأفاكَ سامعاً ومطيعا

وأفاكَ سامعاً ومطيعا

So whenever you summon diversion with your melodies,

So if you sang playfully with your melodies,

it comes to you, listening and obedient.

You found a listening and obedient person.

وإذا الدهر ضنَّ باللذة البكر

وإذا الدهر ضنَّ باللذة البكر

جعلناك خاطباً وشفيعاً

جعلناك خاطباً وشفيعاً

And when Time begrudges virgin delight,

And if time was stingy with innocent pleasures,

we make you a suitor and an intercessor.

We made you an advocate and intercessor.
