Oh, my heart [conjectural reading], at the melody of the strings,

And the varieties of fragrant herbs and flowers!

    And a gathering I beheld as a firmament—rising

Within it were goblets like brilliant stars.

So your merriment and care are parted,

And water and fire are joined.

And the cupbearers seem like moons of night,

Coursing along, passing round a sun of day.

So bodies are tipsy, and eyelids

    Languid, and faces flushed.

If you doubt that it is the sun, then look

At its light upon the moons when it has gone out.
