O you who forsake me, do not make estrangement a habit.

O you who depart, do not make departure a habit

And if you hope for no reward from me, fear the sin of wronging me.

Even if you have no hope for my reward, lessen my sin

يميل الصبا عني بقلبك والصَّبا

بقدّك من لي لو يثقَّف بالضمِ

Youth turns your heart away from me, and the east wind sways

Youth turns away from me with your heart and youth

Your figure—if only I could straighten it with an embrace!

With your stature, who do I have if he were to accompany with intimacy

فعطفاً على جسمي النَّحيل فاه

يمتُّ إلى أجفان عينيك بالسُّقمِ

So have compassion on my frail body, for it

So have mercy on my frail body, sigh

Claims kinship with your eyelids through sickness.

My eyelids yearn, sick, for yours

وما قلت بدرُ التم مثلك عادلاً

ولكنني قابلت ظلمك بالظلمِ

ولكنني قابلت ظلمك بالظلمِ

And I was not being fair when I said, 'The full moon is like you';
